The Florida Community College Activities Association
selects 19 Pensacola Junior College students for its Music and Theatre
All-Academic Team.
The students are Andrew Bartlett, Cassady Carter, Sarah Davis, Melanie
Haggard, Misty Hallman, Joshua Kaye, Gregory Nicholas, Kathryn
Patterson, Carl Sears, Kati Touchstone, Hannah Cobb, Catherine Florian,
Emily Hammon, Kendra Lyons, Christina McCary, Will Thompson, Benjamin
Krock, Zachary Pingel and Joshua Zeller.
“They were selected because they had a 3.30 or higher GPA and were
enrolled in at least 18 semester hours for the year,” says Don
Snowden, PJC department head of Music and Theatre.

The Wizard of Oz

Sundays at 2:30pm at the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the

Synopsis: Go somewhere “Over the Rainbow” with Dorothy and Toto to
meet Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion – and not to forget, the
Good Witch of the North. Say farewell to Munchkinland, and travel down
the Yellow Brick Road to Emerald City and The Wizard of Oz. Look out for
that nasty Wicked Witch of the West!

Auditions: Monday & Tuesday, September 22 & 23 at 7:00pm.
Performances: November 14 - 16 and 21 - 23 
Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:30pm.
Synopsis: In grim Gotham-like city of the future, a 20-year drought has occurred. As a result, the government has banned private toiletries and the citizens must use pay-to-pee toilets regulated by a monopolistic company, the Urine Good Company, which charges exorbitant prices. Bobby Strong, the assistant custodian at the poorest urinal in town, decides enough is enough. With the help of the daughter of the CEO of the Urine Good Company, Hope Cladwell, Bobby ends up leading a rebellion which frees the citizens.

Auditions: Monday & Tuesday, June 23 & 24 at 8:00am - Noon at the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus.
Rehearsals begin Wednesday, June 25
Auditions are open to recent high school graduates and students in grades 9 - 12 for the 2008-2009 school year for Pensacola Junior Colleges Summer High School Onstage Workshop.
All eligible age students who audition are included in the program; auditions are merely to determine who plays what parts, says PJC Theatre Director Rodney Whatley.
PJCs Summer Musical Theatre Program is an opportunity for students to participate in many aspects of production - including singing, acting, dancing and /or technical theatre.

Synopsis: Dorothy finds herself in the land of the Munchkins, and must journey to see the Wizard of Oz. Her path takes her past fantastic places, and endears her to the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Lion along the way. Each receives his dearest wish after the long journey.

The Night of the Iguana

Synopsis: A priest is excommunicated because of a sex scandal involving an under-aged girl. He then moves to Mexico and works as a tour guide in order to escape from his sexual obsessions, but finds himself in trouble when a group of young women take a tour of the small fishing village where he lives.
 

 


Rhinoceros
by Eugene Ionesco

Synopsis: Berenger - an average citizen in a nameless French city - is not interested in the fact that rhinoceros are on the loose. This causes him to quarrel with his friend Jean and his attractive secretary Daisy outside a grocer's shop. The argument continues with many local joining in - these include the grocer and his wife, a waitress and a housewife, a cafe owner, an old gentleman, a waitress and a logician. The group try to reason the events that are happening around them. The results are understandably chaotic. In the local government office where Berenger works he witnesses that the staff are gradually turning into rhinoceros.
Eventually Berenger finds out that Daisy and he are the only human beings left. To his surprise Daisy then too turns into a rhinoceros. Berenger concludes he will then fight against all the rhinoceros...
